Civil service state laws help assure that firefighters and law enforcement officers are recruited through open competition, hired and promoted based on merit, and are demoted, suspended, removed from office, or discharged only for cause. Civil service laws for city police officers (RCW 41.12) and city firefighters (RCW 41.08) are adopted in the Revised Code of Washington (RCW).
Due to its organizational structure and size, the Monroe Police Department is regulated by RCW 41.12. Fire services for the City of Monroe are provided by a separate agency, the Snohomish Regional Fire & Rescue.
State law requires that a Civil Service Commission be created to govern Monroe’s Civil Service system. The City’s Civil Service Rules govern Monroe Police Department’s Civil Service System.
If you are interested in applying for an entry-level or experienced-level (lateral) position with the Monroe Police Department, please visit the Department’s Recruitment page.
