Elevation Certificates
What is an elevation certificate?
As a participant in FEMA's National Floodplain Insurance Program's (NFIP) Community Rating System (CRS), the City is required to maintain elevations certificates for all structures built within the Special Floodplain Hazard Area (SFHA). Elevation certificates document that a structure is built to specific standards that lower their risk of flooding. More information related to elevation certificates and building standards required within a floodplain or SFHA can be found in MMC Chapter 14.01 Flood Hazard Area Regulation.
Elevation certificates are one of many activities that the City participates in as a part of its CRS program. Participation in this program has earned the City a Class 5 rating, giving a 25% reduction in premiums for all new and renewed flood insurance policies for structures located inside the SFHA. A map of the SFHA is maintained by the City on its mapping webpage. Additional information on the City's NFIP program and CRS activities can be found on Monroe's Flood Protection and Management Program page.
