Neighborhood Watch

Block Watch FBNeighborhood Watch (also known as Block Watch) is a collaborative effort by neighbors to enhance safety and prevent crime within their neighborhood. For it to be effective, a Neighborhood Watch takes commitment and active participation by neighbors. Monroe residential and business neighborhood areas are encouraged to take the initiative to establish a Neighborhood Watch. Here are simple steps:

  1. Recruit and organize as many neighbors as possible to assist with the planning, outreach, and logistics of maintaining your Neighborhood Watch.

  2. Host an initial meeting to discuss and problem-solve safety and crime issues in your neighborhood. Consider inviting one of our police officers who can help address concerns.

  3. Create a communications plan specific to your neighborhood so that emergency and important information can be quickly shared. Group text, group email, or a social media page are options to notify neighbors of urgent matters and to share general information.

  4. Stay alert and active with your Neighborhood Watch. Report suspicious activity by calling 9-1-1. Stay connected with neighbors through potluck or block party events. Encourage neighbors to tap into city and crime prevention and safety information
