Crime Prevention & Safety
Safety is everyone’s responsibility. And unfortunately, crime affects us all. The Monroe Police Department values the community partnerships it has with residents, businesses, and local organizations to prevent crime, address public safety issues, and ensure Monroe is a safe and welcoming place.
These pages contain tips and resources to enhance your personal and neighborhood and include engagement opportunities to learn what more you can do.
Personal Safety
Personal safety takes diligence by being aware of your surroundings and reporting suspicious activity to the police. Personal safety extends beyond your physical body to your family members, home, business, car and more. Some featured topics for personal safety include scam/fraud prevention, car seat safety checks, resources for victims of domestic violence and more.
Neighborhood Safety
The most effective crime prevention tool in your neighborhood is to know your neighbors, have a way to communicate with them, and be alert to the surroundings in your neighborhood. Establishing a Block Watch is an effective way to achieve these.
Our School Resource Officer Program is a valued partnership with the Monroe School District where an Officer supports safety and security at Monroe High School.
Other neighborhood issues may involve graffiti, fireworks, and registered sex offenders living nearby.
Business Safety
Whether you’re a new business or longstanding business in Monroe, you should consider ways to reduce or prevent crime at your worksite. Our Community Services Officers can share “Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design” (CPTED) concepts with you. These concepts address natural surveillance, access control, territorial reinforcement, and space management to reduce the opportunity for criminal activity.
