Sumac Corridor Utility Project

ROAD CLOSURE: SAMS ST WILL BE CLOSED TO THROUGH TRAFFIC FROM OCTOBER 23 THROUGH OCT 31 FROM SUMAC TO POWELL. A DETOUR IS AVAILABLE ON BLAKELEY. LOCAL ACCESS ONLY WILL BE PERMITTED.

The Sumac Corridor Utility Project will replace aging water main and sewer main along the Sumac Corridor. The utility systems have been failing in multiple locations and will need to be upgraded to new 8" PVC for sewer and 8" Ductile Iron for water. The project is split into two phases lasting two construction seasons. The first phase will consist of replacing Water and Sewer mains along Sams St, Circle Drive, and Blakeley St. from Sumac to Powell. Phase 2 will consist of replacing the water and sewer mains along Sumac Dr and Riverview Dr. during the summer of 2026. Included in the project is main piping, property service connections, re-paving the asphalt, and all necessary property restoration to return the site to existing conditions.

SCHEDULE:
  • City of Monroe staff completed Design efforts in the the Spring of 2025.
  • Contract Advertised on April 23 and April 20, 2025. Bid opened on May 8, 2025
  • Contractor Award to RAW LAND CONSTRUCTION by City Council on May 13, 2025 in the amount of $1,388,275.06.
  • Construction activities begin June 30, 2025. Contractor will begin work on Blakeley St. then Sams St., then Circle Dr. Expect road closures and delays in the area. Construction will close each roadway to thru traffic, local access only will be enforced. We apologize for any inconvenience.
  • Construction has moved into the final stages. All utility work has been completed. Final construction activities include paving the road surfaces at Sams St and Circle Drive, with minor property restoration completed after. Construction work is anticipated to be completed early November.
  • Construction has completed for all of Phase 1. Contractor was given Physical Completion notice on December 15, 2025.
