2023 Annual Paving Project

Project Status: Construction Complete - Final Striping in Process

Project Schedule Updates: Construction Complete - Striping to be finished September 8

Current and Final Phase

The construction phase is finished. There is still some landscaping that needs to be finalized, and the road needs to be painted with striping. None of this activity should significantly alter traffic flow or close any lanes in the road.

Property Restoration

Property restoration is mostly complete, with some final work still needed on Country Crescent.

Project Description

The 2023 street preservation efforts include resurfacing aging roadway surfaces, as well as updating nearby sidewalk ramps to current federal standards. When the streets are resurfaced, the process typically involves grinding away the top two or three inches of existing asphalt and then repaving with new asphalt to original grade.

The City of Monroe uses a pavement management program to help identify which streets are candidates for preservation considering both the pavement rating and available budget. The candidate streets for this year are depicted in the image below (yellow lines):

These streets include:

  • Ramblewood Rd SE
  • Ravenwood Rd SE
  • Autumns Ave SE
  • Heathers Pl SE
  • Ambers Pl SE
  • Rainier View Rd

The City advertised for contractor bids in May 2023, with the low bidder being Lakeside Industries Inc. Their contract was awarded during the May 23rd Council Meeting.

Construction signage will be set up in the general area of the project. The community can expect sidewalk ramp upgrades to be accomplished first, then the grinding away of old pavement, followed by placing a new layer of asphalt.

Citywide refreshing of pavement stripes and markings refreshing is part of this project. Each year, the Public Works operations staff determine which locations are to be repainted.
