What is Probation?
Probation is a court ordered sanction that allows a person to remain in the community under the supervision of a Probation Counselor. Offenders are given court ordered terms and conditions of probation to follow. Conditions of supervision can vary and may include jail time, fines, restitution, community service, treatment, and other sanctions. If the probationer does not comply with the court ordered conditions a violation hearing may be scheduled, and further sanctions may be imposed. There is one Probation Counselor serving the City of Monroe. The mission of the Monroe Municipal Probation Department is to ensure public safety while striving to create a safer community.
