Monroe, Washington’s new brand reflects community’s best attributes

MONROE, Wash. –  On behalf of the Monroe City Council, Mayor Geoffrey Thomas is pleased to officially launch the new City of Monroe brand. City-produced print and digital communications will include new logos, colors, design, tone, and voice that better reflect how residents and businesses feel about Monroe. Over time, the new brand logos will be integrated into city assets, such as fleet vehicles and uniforms. The adoption of new brand guidelines by the City Council on March 25 caps a comprehensive, two-year public involvement process.

“What’s important about our new brand is that it aligns with our ‘Imagine Monroe’ vision statement and the vision of Monroe as a place where everyone feels at home and that they belong,” notes Mayor Thomes. “We are excited that our logo and brand better reflect Monroe’s caring, vibrant, natural, playful, and welcoming spirit and will be easily recognized as our brand by people who live, work, and visit here.”

The new brand logo combines imagery of a mountain range and a bird representing the Vaux’s Swift. The bird flies upward, symbolizing forward thinking and optimism. The converging angles echo the shape of Monroe’s scenic Lewis Street Bridge and the convergence of the Skykomish and Snohomish Rivers.

In fall 2022, the City Council approved a contract with JayRay to develop a new brand based on community input. Engagement included an online survey with over 1,000 responses; nine one-on-one interviews with business owners; two focus groups with 21 total attendees; and two workshops with 10 brand “ambassadors” representing diverse community experiences.
