On December 16, 2021, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), announced a revision to the “Lead and Copper Rule”. This revision was implemented to empower and better protect communities from exposure to lead in drinking water. Some of the improvements under this revision includes requiring all water systems to create a service line inventory.
The EPA banned lead service lines on June 19, 1986, under the “Safe Drinking Water Act”. This prohibited the use of lead pipes, solder, and flux in public water systems.
The City of Monroe has compiled an inventory of service lines, both owned by the City and by the homeowner. Through our findings, using historical records and visual inspections, we can say with confidence that we do not have any evidence of lead piping in our system.
If you have any additional information or questions about your service line, please reach out to the Water Quality office at 360-794-6100.
