[ARCHIVED] National Drug Take-back Day

MONROE – Turn in your unused or expired medication for safe disposal:

What: National Drug Take-back Day
When: Saturday, April 26, 2014
Time: 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Where: Monroe Police Department

The Monroe Police Department in partnership with the Snohomish Health District, other law enforcement agencies and US Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) is participating in National Drug Take-back Day on Saturday, April 26, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. This special event will give the public an opportunity to safely dispose of unwanted medicines.
Medicines that languish in home cabinets are highly susceptible to diversion, misuse, and abuse. Rates of prescription drug abuse in the U.S. are alarmingly high, as are the number of accidental poisonings and overdoses due to these drugs. Studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including from the home medicine cabinet. In addition, citizens should be advised that their usual methods for disposing of unused medicines—flushing them down the toilet or throwing them in the trash—both pose potential safety and health hazards.
