[ARCHIVED] Be Ready for more rain and winds

Rain Storm Update 6 NF

STORM UPDATE #6: Be ready for more rain and wind

 (12/16/25; 2:30 p.m.)

Another 1-3 inches of rain is expected in Western Washington today and into tomorrow which can cause flooding in rivers, creeks, streams and other waterways. Storm drains and ditches may become clogged with debris. We are closely monitoring the Skykomish River in Gold Bar which is expected to crest early tomorrow morning (Wed. Dec. 17), recede, and crest again Thurs. Dec. 18 in the afternoon. Flooding is occurring in Al Borlin Park (park is closed).

In addition to the rain, many areas including Monroe are under a Wind Advisory from 7 p.m. tonight (Dec. 16, 2025) to 6 a.m. tomorrow (Dec. 17, 2025). Secure outdoor furniture and equipment. With saturated soil from the record rain fall, trees may topple. If they hit power lines, that may cause an outage. Please report a power outage to Snohomish PUD at 425-783-1001.

Please be patient as crews from many agencies are working to clean up and restore services. Do not drive to or through flooded areas, especially out of curiosity. With the next round of rain and wind, you should expect more road closures. Information may change quickly, and we will do our best to update the Monroe community.

Status as of Tues. Dec. 16, 2025

  • Rivers: We continue to regularly monitor the Skykomish and Snohomish Rivers, Lake Tye, and coordinate flood response with French Slough Flood Control District.

  • City Parks: Al Borlin and Sky River Parks remain closed as is the pedestrian bridge that connects Al Borlin and Lewis Street Park. The boat launch at Lewis Street Park, managed by the State Department of Fish & Wildlife, is closed.

  • Road Closures: There continues to be no road closures within Monroe city limits. To ensure you have the most current information, check the appropriate road closure/real time traffic maps:

If you come upon a closed road (or blocked entrance to a park or parking lot) do not under any circumstances drive around a barricade. Driving through water over a roadway is very dangerous as you don’t know the depth of the water or its current. Debris in the water is also a danger.

  • Community Support: If you or someone you know needs food, housing, or crisis support, please view our Resource and Community Guide for agencies who can provide assistance.

Snohomish County’s Evergreen State Fair Park is managing emergency shelter for livestock at the fairgrounds.

Sky Valley Food Bank (233 Sky River Parkway, Monroe) is operating under its regular hours.

Monroe/Sky Valley YMCA (14033 Fryelands Blvd, Monroe) is offering showers, coffee, and device recharging stations.

Take the Next Step (202 S. Sam St, Monroe) continues its outreach programs and support.

For Snohomish County flood updates, please visit their Public Safety Hub.

  • Disaster Preparedness: Homes and businesses are encouraged to be disaster ready by having an emergency supplies kit, establishing a communications plan, and staying informed during the event. These actions are vital to survival. Please visit our Emergency Resources webpage to download disaster preparedness guides and checklists, including ones about flooding and windstorms.
