[ARCHIVED] Overnight flood checks conducted throughout city

Rain Storm Update 2 NF

STORM UPDATE #2: Overnight flood checks conducted throughout city

(12/11/25; 12:15 p.m.)

Monroe Police Officers conducted site inspections at several potential flood-risk areas last night, including public and private properties. This is the second storm update we’ve published and will likely publish another one tomorrow. (Read Update #1)

Although the rain is forecasted to ease up today, there are still concerns for flooding. Please use caution if you must travel. Our Emergency Coordination Center is activated so that we can effectively coordinate city resources to respond to flood impacts and to coordinate with surrounding jurisdictions and agencies.

Status as of Thurs. Dec. 11, 2025 (12:15 p.m.)

  • Flood Risk Areas/Public Areas: No significant water levels were noted at Lake Tye/Fryeland Blvd or Lords Lake overnight. However, the French Slough Flood Control District has notified the City that water is cresting over the levees that are part of the dike system. As intended with the dike system, water is dispersing through ditches and likely reach Lake Tye. We are coordinating with the District to watch for possible impacts to US 2 as past levee cresting events have resulted in water over the roadway. If this occurs, access to/from Monroe may be impacted and we will assess the need for a closure. We do expect impacts to our stormwater system in that it will not have the capacity to take in the extra water.
  •  Flood Risk Areas/Private Properties: City officials had contacted the Monroe Motel on Old Owen Road adjacent to Woods Creek and Terrace Street Apartments adjacent to Sky River Park regarding flood risks. Last night water reached approximately four feet at the Terrace Street Apartments but leveled off around 2 a.m. A few residents were evacuated. The rear section and all rooms had flooded at the Monroe Motel. Water reached about one foot in depth in the parking lot but receded at the last check.
  • River monitoring: Monitoring continues on Skykomish (Sky) River. French Slough, Snohomish River/Monroe (projected to crest around 10 p.m. tonight) and Lake Tye. Snohomish County has shared that Skykomish River is receding.
  • Road Closures: There are currently no road closures within Monroe city limits. SR203 is closed between Ben Howard Rd and North High Rock.
  • Park Closures: Al Borlin and Sky River Parks continue to be closed as is the pedestrian bridge that connects Al Borlin and Lewis Street Park. The boat launch at Lewis Street Park, managed by the State Department of Fish & Wildlife, is closed. We are monitoring Lake Tye Park and may close it due to flooding concerns.

Stay safe

Please consider your safety and the safety of others and follow these tips:

  • Never drive through standing water or running water.
  • Do not drive into flooded areas; find a different route.
  • Avoid low lying trails, trails near fast moving water, and steep slopes that may become unstable.
  • Clear gutters, downspouts, and neighborhood storm drains.
  • Stay safe in your home or go to the American Red Cross Shelter at the Evergreen Fairgrounds (14405 179th Ave. SE, Monroe, WA 98272).
  • Evacuate your livestock if they are in danger from flooding. Evergreen Fairgrounds is offering emergency stabling at their Equestrian Park barns. A signed waiver is required. Learn more at https://www.evergreenfair.org/101/Equestrian-Park.
