[ARCHIVED] High School Field Damage

MHS Football Field

MONROE – August 5, 2015 at 11:05 pm: Officers responded to Monroe High School in the 17000 block of Tester road for a report of a loud vehicle somewhere on the campus possibly coming from the stadium area.

As officers entered the parking lot of the school, they observed a green SUV type vehicle coming towards them. The officers stopped the green Chevrolet Blazer that was occupied by four males. As officers looked at the vehicle they noticed the rear half of the vehicle was covered in what appeared to be field turf. When the occupants were asked why they were there, they said they were meeting up with friends. The officers asked about the field turf on their vehicle, the driver said he did not know. An officer went to the football field and noticed the chain link fence around the stadium had a section that had been damaged and a large portion of the field had fresh black tire marks in several areas. The marks stretched from the end zone to approximately the 40 yard line.

All occupants of the vehicle were taken into custody. The driver, a 17 year old from Snohomish and two 17 year old passengers from Snohomish and Monroe were transported to Denney Juvenile Justice Center for booking. Christopher A. Carey, a 24 year old passenger from Sedro Woolley was transported to the Snohomish County Jail. All are charged with Malicious Mischief 1st Degree. Two of the 17 year olds are students of Monroe School District. The vehicle was impounded to the Monroe Police Department.

The estimated cost damage is not yet known but expected to be several thousand dollars. For additional information on this media release, contact Administrative Director Debbie Willis at 360-794-6300.
