Over the past several days some City of Monroe water customers have complained of taste and odor issues in their drinking water. Other Everett water wholesale customers have also reported the same problem and have complained of a metallic taste in their water.
Plant operators at the City of Everett Water Treatment Facility have responded by informing customers that several days ago they began using a different intake line at the Chaplin Reservoir. Compounds in the intake line reacting with chlorine during disinfection are believed to be causing the taste and odor issue.
Everett staff has informed us that this is not a health concern. However, some customers may be extra sensitive to the smell and taste at this time. Plant operators are continuing to monitor the condition, and they expect the condition to pass within the next week when operations will return to the original intake line. If you have further questions or concerns please contact the Water Quality Office at 360-863-4546 or email jottow@monroewa.gov.
