STORM UPDATE #1: Monroe officials monitoring weather, offer safety tips

Monroe’s Emergency Coordination Center has been monitoring the weather forecasts and impacts within the city and surrounding areas. Excessive rainfall is leading rivers and streams to likely crest and soil to become unstable. This notification is intended to provide a status of the impacts in Monroe and provide safety tips. Please understand that weather forecasts change often and quickly. We will do our best to provide updates as they related to Monroe.

Status as of Wed. Dec. 10, 2025 (7 p.m.)

• Road Closures: There are currently no road closures within Monroe city limits.
• Park Closures: Al Borlin and Sky River Parks are closed as is the pedestrian bridge that connects Al Borlin and Lewis Street Park. The boat launch at Lewis Street Park, managed by the State Department of Fish & Wildlife, is closed.
• River monitoring: We are closely monitoring Skykomish (Sky) River (expected to peak tonight (Wed. Dec. 10) around 10 p.m., just below major flood stage), French Slough, Snohomish River/Monroe (projected to exceed historic flood records Thurs. Dec. 11 around 10 p.m.) and Lake Tye.
• Flood risks: City officials have contacted the Monroe Motel on Old Owen Road adjacent to Woods Creek and Terrace Street Apartments adjacent to Sky River Park regarding flood risks. The Fryelands neighborhood maybe subject to localized flooding. Residents in these areas are encouraged to sign up for Snohomish County’s RAVE alerts at https://bit.ly/snocoflooding to receive notifications specific to their areas.

Stay safe

Please consider your safety and the safety of others and follow these tips:

• Never drive through standing water or running water.
• Do not drive into flooded areas; find a different route.
• Avoid low lying trails, trails near fast moving water, and steep slopes that may become unstable.
• Clear gutters, downspouts, and neighborhood storm drains.
• Stay safe in your home or go to the American Red Cross Shelter at the Evergreen Fairgrounds (14405 179th Ave. SE, Monroe, WA 98272).
• Evacuate your livestock if they are in danger from flooding. Evergreen Fairgrounds is offering emergency stabling at their Equestrian Park barns. A signed waiver is required. Learn more at https://www.evergreenfair.org/101/Equestrian-Park.

Report hazards

• Report road hazards (e.g. fallen tree, water over roadway) within city limits to Monroe Public Works: 360-794-6100 (during business hours) or 425-239-0189 (after hours).
• Report power outages to Snohomish PUD: Residential/425-783-1000; Business/ 425-783-1012.
