[ARCHIVED] Car vs. Pedestrian Fatality

Fatality Collision

At 6:53 a.m. this morning, Monroe police officers responded to a car-pedestrian collision at the intersection of North Kelsey Street and US 2 which resulted in the death of the pedestrian. The decedent, an 82-year-old female from Monroe, was crossing US 2 northbound, using the crosswalk on the eastern side of the intersection when she was struck by a vehicle traveling westbound on US 2. The driver is fully cooperating with the investigation.

Vehicle traffic on US 2 at North Kelsey Street was impacted by the road closures needed to secure the scene for the police’s investigation. The City of Monroe Public Works Department established detours around the incident, placing signage to assist drivers in the area. At 9:50 a.m., all closed roads were opened. The Washington State Patrol assisted the investigation with measuring and mapping the collision scene.

The identity of the decedent, along with a cause and manner of death, will be released by the Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office, which is standard protocol.
