Code Enforcement
About City Codes
The Monroe City Council has established codes and ordinances to ensure that Monroe is kept beautiful. City codes protect the health, safety and quality of life for Monroe residents, visitors and business people. Nuisance and right of way code enforcement process falls under the purview of the Monroe Police Department and are enforced by a Community Service Officer (CSO). These would include violations such as unlawful use of streets and sidewalks to violations of the Nuisance Codes as denoted in 6.04 of the Monroe Municipal Code.

If citizens feel these municipal codes are being violated they should contact the Police Department to advise of a possible code violation. Examples of the violations are overgrown lots, abandoned vehicles, accumulation of junk, violations of the noise ordinances, and a other violations that make the City look shoddy or unkempt. Enforcing City Codes keep property values up and brings tourism and business activity to the area.

Civil Code Violations such as business license violations, building code violations, and zoning violations are enforced through the respective departments at the City of Monroe. You may contact those departments at 360-794-7400.

Complaints
Most code enforcement cases are initiated by Monroe residents. If you suspect a right-of-way or nuisance code violation in your neighborhood, please report it to a CSO at the Police Department at 360-794-6300.

Once reported, the matter will be investigated. If it is found to be a valid violation, the CSO will begin the process of getting the violation corrected. The amount of time it takes for a violation to be corrected varies with each situation.

If you would like an update on the progress of the case, please contact the CSO. If the problem reoccurs after having been corrected, please report the problem again.
